Montreal’s McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is one of the world’s foremost academic health centres. Building on the tradition of 200 years of medical leadership of its founding hospitals, the MUHC was created through the merge of six local hospitals. Together they provide exceptional inpatient and ambulatory care, as well as specialized services for cancer care, mental health, surgery neuroscience, women’s health, pediatric medicine and more. Affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine of McGill University as a bilingual teaching hospital since its earliest days, the MUHC continues to shape the course of adult and pediatric medicine by attracting clinical and research expertise from around the world, assessing the latest in medical technology, and training the next generation of medical professionals.
The Research Institute of the MUHC (RI-MUHC) is an international research powerhouse with a worldwide reputation in the field of biomedical sciences and health care. It supports over 460 researchers and over 1,200 graduate and post-doctoral students and fellows in a new five-storey building at the MUHC new Glen site.

Excellent healthcare comes at a price, especially for those who don’t have medical insurance and where hospital rates at MUHC range from $700 for an Emergency Room visit, to $4,120 per day for inpatient ward, and $12,270 per day for Intensive Care. Make sure you arrange for coverage whether you’re a new resident (facing the 3-month wait period), or a visitor to Canada.
