New “Health Fee for International Students” for BC Medical Services Plan

On September 1, 2019, international students (holding a study permit for 6 or more months) will be assessed a BC health-care coverage fee of $37.50 per month, which will change to $75.00 per month on January 1, 2020.

EFFECTIVE September 1, 2019

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 19 years or older:

  • $37.50 “MSP premium” per month, and
  • $37.50 health-care coverage fee per month

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 18 years or younger:

  • $37.50 health-care coverage fee per month

If the international student’s spouse and/or dependent children are residing with the student in BC, they will be assessed the new health-care coverage fee if they also hold study permits. If they only hold work permits or are here as visitors, they will not be assessed the fee.

EFFECTIVE January 1, 2020

All international students: $75 health-care coverage fee per month.
[“MSP premium” discontinued]
